The historic Rice House was formerly owned by Walter Rice, a Reynolds Metals Company executive and former American ambassador to Australia. The home was donated to the Science Museum of Virginia Foundation in 1996.
The Rice House was designed by Richard Neutra, a famed architect from California, focused on incorporating natural elements surrounding the property of the Rice House into the home itself. The home is the only International Style recognized house in the metro area.
Since the foundation took over maintenance of the home, there has been extensive remodeling and repair done to the extravagant home. Renovations began last year and have since been completed, lead by Chris Fultz.
Repair and renovations to the Rice House include new roofing, new cork flooring, new interior paint and a new second-story deck with railing.
LaDifference co-owners, Andy Thornton and Sarah Paxton, recently had a private tour of The Rice House. The gallery above highlights some of the renovations that took place.
