If you don’t know the history of the formation of the Shockoe Design District, check out this little blurb from our first Design day:

There are few neighborhoods across the United States that are synonymous with shopping and style.  It didn’t take Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman to make Rodeo Drive famous, but everyone knows it is the place to go if you visit the City of Angels.  Weekend trip to the Big Apple?  A stroll through Soho is always in the cards (or it should be!).  So what about The River City?  We’ll be bold: we think that Shockoe is becoming a national epicenter of design and style!

Good things have been brewing here in RVA for quite some time.  An underlying excitement and buzz that something big is just around the corner; a contagious energy that great and huge things are happening on this city’s streets and in its shops.  It’s fueled by the loyalty to all things local, the multitude of events and opportunities here, and by the pure fact that Richmonders LOVE Richmond.

That is why we have gathered together as a community here in Shockoe.  Not necessarily to create something new, but to illuminate and encourage what we know already exists.

So join us this Saturday for what is sure to be an awesome day.  What better way to spend your weekend than celebrating Richmond and American design?!
